Warm summer nights begin to fade, and in the wedding industry we open fall with open (but hesitant) arms. Fall is one of the busiest times of year for the wedding world, and it’s so much fun. With seasons changing, more couples are planning their fall engagement photos and with that comes fall engagement outfit ideas and shopping. As a Nashville elopement photographer, I’m sharing some of my favorite fall color palettes and even some direct links to make shopping that much easier! If you’re planning your wedding and getting ready for fall engagement photos, you’ve come to the right place.
Before getting into color palettes, shopping links and outfit ideas, let’s start with some ideas to help pick the right outfits.
Keep it Simple For Your Fall Engagement Outfit
While planning your engagement session, keep in mind the focus of these photos – you and your partner. Oftentimes wearing big, bold patterns can take away from the two of you. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear florals, or even a fun plaid for your fall engagement outfit. Rather I suggest one person wears a pattern, and the other wears a color found within that pattern. This allows you both to go together, without having too much going on.
We Want to Coordinate
A big misconception when outfit planning is that your outfits have to match exactly, that is simply not the case! In fact, I recommend you find colors that coordinate rather than totally match, and here’s why. If you are both wearing black shirts, it’s difficult for the eye to tell where one person ends and the other begins. Whereas if you have one partner wearing a small pattern, and a solid color, not only do they look cohesive, but you are separate beings. After all, aren’t these photos celebrating two people coming together as one?
Be Yourself
Lastly and most importantly, be yourself! When choosing your fall engagement outfit, prioritize what makes you feel like your most confident self. Don’t worry about trends or suggestions. The most important thing is that you and your partner feel confident, comfortable and ready to shine in front of the camera.
Fall Engagement Outfit Color Palettes
Neutrals
First and one of my favorites, is a good neutral color scheme. For your fall engagement outfit neutrals are a great choice because your colors don’t fight the warm seasonal colors, but enhance it. Also neutrals are a timeless coloring that will always be in style and can be found in stores year round. Some of my favorite pieces can be found at Baltic Born or Anthropologie.
Rich Seasonal Tones For Your Fall Engagement Outfit
While we’re planning for fall engagement photos, why not embrace the season! As the weather begins to change we get to see the beauty that mother nature has to offer in rich colors throughout. From the leaves changing colors, to warm autumnal tones, it’s one of the best times of year for a reason.
Dusty Rose and Sage
Because it’s always a good time for some luxurious and rich gem colored outfits, right?
Cool Tones
Next up on the list for your fall engagement outfit color palettes, cool tones. We’ve looked at neutrals which are so perfect for the fall, but cool tones are a great way to highlight the seasonal colors, especially if cooler tones look better on your skin tone. While planning your outfits, take into consideration that everyone’s different, so maybe you look better in a cool neutral rather than a warm neutral, or you just like them better. It’s all up to what you prefer and feel confident in!
Nevertheless, the most important thing is that you’re celebrating your love story and you both feel beautiful! Your fall engagement outfit is going to be perfect, and this is the beginning of your forever.
