Top 10 Things To Do When Visiting Savannah Georgia

With summer in full swing, many people are packing their things and heading on vacation – myself included. As a destination wedding photographer, I’m constantly on the move and frequently visit Savannah, Georgia, Florida, and even Europe. While traveling, I’ve seen several hidden gems and unique spots filled with delicious eats, incredible sights, and rich history. Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in the US, and worth the visit. I’ve got you covered if you are in the area and looking for things to do. Let’s dive into my top list of things to do while visiting Savannah Georgia!

Sights to See While Visiting Savannah Georgia

Forsyth Park

This local gem is breathtaking. Home to the gorgeous and historic Forsythe Park Fountain, it is an excellent place for an afternoon picnic and worth the visit. While visiting the park, I was reminded of Central Park with a southern flair. Whether walking through the park with a cup of coffee or bringing a book and staying awhile, ensure you have Forsyth Park on your list of must-see spots!

Rainbow Row

While visiting Savannah, Georgia, consider stopping by Rainbow Row for a beautiful photo-op spot. Smaller than its Charleston equivalent, Rainbow Row in Savannah is still super cute. Located in the downtown historic district, you can hop on a Savannah Sightseeing Tour and experience all the stunning architecture and history.

Jones Street

Dubbed the prettiest street in Savannah, I would argue it’s the prettiest street in the country. Or at least the prettiest street I’ve ever visited. With cobblestone walkways, brick buildings, and incredible greenery, it makes for an excellent spot for an evening walk. Enjoy the architecture, and don’t miss all the parks along this historic street! Jones Street will transport you to similar times and a slower-paced lifestyle, making for a classic Southern night out in Georgia.

Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist

Are you fascinated by architecture and buildings that can tell a story? The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is awe-inspiring. We were left speechless when we visited the cathedral during our last visit. The design is inspired by high Victorian Gothic or Gothic architecture and French building traditions. It’s a unique and outstanding building still used for religious practices today. Even if you’re not Catholic, this majestic building will blow you away with its architecture and beauty. It’s worth stopping for a look!

Wormsloe State Historic Site

If you’re looking for a peaceful morning stroll spot, Wormsloe State Historic Site is just the spot. If you’re staying in the Historic District and haven’t rented a car, you’ll have to Uber here, but it’s still worth a trip! You might recognize the scenery here from the Miley Cyrus movie The Last Song. This is an excellent spot for a beautiful photo op. Grab a coffee or a quick bite to eat and stroll this historic site.

Bonaventure Cemetery

While cemeteries can often be challenging to visit, Bonaventure Cemetery is the most beautiful one I’ve ever visited. It has a rich history, stunning memorials, and an overwhelming sense of peace. As always, with places like this, be respectful as this is many people’s final resting place, and many people have family members resting here, too. Throughout your visit to Savannah, make time to visit Bonaventure Cemetery.

Eats + Drinks While Visiting Savannah Georgia

Collins Quarter

First on my list of top eats and drinks when visiting Savannah Georgia is Collins Quarter. You’ll have multiple opportunities to visit with locations in both Forsythe and Downtown. Consider staying for brunch to enjoy the chicken and waffles or a traditional seasonal French toast. We love this spot and make it a priority to come back every time we’re in town! The line can get super long, so be sure to get there nice and early.

Mirabelle

Another great breakfast or brunch spot in Savannah is the Mirabelle. The waffles are fantastic! It’s also located near the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, a great spot to stop after visiting. If you’re looking for an upscale boutique-type place to stay, they also offer beautiful suites.

Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room

While visiting the area, if you want to embrace Southern hospitality and cuisine, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room is just the place! Locals gather early in the morning and wait in line to experience the delicious, ever-changing menu. It’s open Monday through Friday, 11-2. If you want to have a good time, you should expect to get here around 10 a.m. When visiting, bring cash, as it’s a cash-only restaurant. It’s often referred to as the #1 restaurant in Savannah.

Prohibition Bar

Are you intrigued by history and visiting a speakeasy? Make sure to stop by Prohibition Bar for authentic prohibition-style cocktails. Their expert bartenders offer classes teaching you how to make cocktails and learning about the rich history behind the drinks. They also have classic American food and superb seafood options!

The Olde Pink House

Celebrating anything special while visiting Savannah Georgia? Consider visiting The Olde Pink House with your partner for a romantic night out. While it is on the pricier end, its menu is stacked with options for everyone, from a classic fried chicken and macaroni and cheese to a delectable filet mignon. You’ll be sure to enjoy this incredible spot!

Leopold’s Ice Cream – Since 1919

Leopold’s Ice Cream has been around since 1919 and was opened by three brothers from Greece! They learned everything there is to know about desserts and treats from their uncle and have created some of the best ice cream in Georgia. This place is a classic Savannah spot, offering a plethora of delcious sweet treats. Prepare yourself for a little wait here since it’s so popular. If you don’t have time to wait grab some already packed pints of ice cream!

When visiting Savannah Georgia I hope you fall in love with the area as much as we have. It’s become a favorite spot for us to visit, and we can’t wait to go back soon.
