Spring Engagement Photo Outfits

With seasons beginning to change, spring is coming and that means it’s time for all the beautiful engagement sessions! As a Nashville elopement photographer – I can’t wait to capture more love stories. As spring approaches it’s a great season for engagement photos, and I’ve got all the tips for planning your spring engagement photo outfits. Whether you’re opting for a casual vibe, or an adventurous session, I’ve got you covered. Let’s do this!

Coordinating Colors and Outfits Are Key – Not Matching

My first tip and one of my favorites to suggest is planning your outfits with coordinating colors. Not only does this look so so good in photos, it’s a timeless look. Try not to match, and try to find ways to complement each other’s outfits. Whether that’s your partner wearing a white top and jeans, and you’re wearing white pants and a lighter blue top.

Avoid Anything Too Low, or Too Short

When planning your spring engagement photo outfits try to avoid anything that is too low cut or too short. Oftentimes it’s hard for your photographer to get specific angles, and you may not be able to move around as freely. I love when my couples can be authentic and interact genuinely and certain outfits can restrict that. Just keep that in mind when planning. The goal for your spring engagement photo outfits is to feel confident and comfortable!

Keep it Simple – Spring Engagement Photo Outfits

While I’m a sucker for a pretty floral or interesting print, they can be hard to plan outfits around. However, I don’t think you should count them out entirely! If you have an outfit you absolutely love that has a pattern on it, wear it! The most important aspect of planning your engagement outfits is loving what you’re wearing. If you choose to wear something patterned, just make sure your partner wears a more neutral outfit with no patterns. Too many patterns can look harsh on camera.

Spring Engagement Photo Outfit Tips

Avoid Large Logos

Anything with large logos can be distracting in photos taking the focus away from the two of you! Your engagement photos are meant to be a celebration of you taking the next step in your relationship, don’t let a silly logo get in the way.

Wear the Flowy Skirt

If you are on the fence about wearing the long flowy skirt, do it! They are a great option for a dressy outfit, and photograph beautifully. The movement of a skirt during outdoor engagement photos is breathtaking.

Don’t Overthink It – Spring Engagement Photo Outfits

Throughout the planning process if you’re struggling to come up with a good option for you or your partner, consider keeping it simple with pants and a button down. While it may seem ‘too simple’ that’s not the case. Oftentimes the more classic outfits are a timeless option.

Wear the Jeans

Jeans are your friends! Don’t be afraid to wear jeans during your engagement session, they are a great staple for spring and summer outfits.

Let’s Talk Shoes – Spring Engagement Photo Outfits

Next, shoes. Wedges and chunky heels are a great way to dress up your outfit. However, make sure your shoes are broken in before your session, there’s nothing more painful than breaking in a new pair of shoes! For a casual look consider wearing Vans or white tennis shoes. Simple, yet timeless. For guys I suggest a dress shoe for a dressier outfit or a plain logo free tennis shoe, or Vans if you’re opting for casual outfits.

BIGGEST TIP – BE YOURSELF!

Lastly, be yourself. There’s so much inspiration out there, but if you don’t look and feel like yourself you’re not going to like your engagement photos. Use this advice as a guideline if you’re trying to find out if an outfit is a good one for photos, if you don’t feel like a million bucks, keep looking! However don’t change your style based on what your photographer wants. You are the one in the photos, these are the images for your invites and save the dates. What’s important is that you feel comfortable and feel confident!
