Best Winter Wedding Destinations for Your Winter Wedding

Winter’s quiet beauty attracts many couples to planning a wedding during its season. From the winter wonderland vibes, kindness of others, and family being together for the holidays, it’s a great way to celebrate a new chapter of love together. Perhaps you want to escape the heat and travel somewhere cool for a winter wonderland experience. As a destination wedding photographer, I’ve had my fair share of travel and have captured many stunning love stories. Let me help you narrow your list of the best winter wedding destinations to make your search easier.

Iceland

First on my list is Iceland. Iceland has captivating natural beauty, adventure, and perfect winter bliss. Couples are planning Iceland elopements and destination weddings here for unique experiences and a cool wedding on the beach. While you may be wondering why Iceland, I’ve got a couple of reasons to make you add it to your list. The first reason is the breathtaking snowy landscapes and exploring glaciers and volcanoes after saying “I do” in a new bucket list location! Secondly, you can make it an adventure! There are incredible opportunities for unique photos on iceberg-filled beaches, volcanoes, and waterfalls. Lastly, Iceland is a unique destination; you can have your winter wedding however you’d like. Consider incorporating Icelandic traditions like handfasting or a bridal waltz.

Utah – Best Winter Wedding Destinations

Next on my list, and a little easier to get to Utah. Utah is a great spot for a winter wedding, as a booming wedding market will provide a great venue and vendor options. Park City in Utah is extremely popular among celebrities and avid travelers for its stunning ski resort locations. Not only can they have tons of room for guests, but you’ll also be able to enjoy hitting the slopes after the ceremony! Because of the snowy weather lasting longer there, Utah has a plethora of beautiful indoor venues that are just as stunning as outdoors. Consider adding Utah to your list for the best winter wedding destinations! It’s an excellent spot for couples looking for the destination feel without going too far.

LaBelle Lake, Idaho – Best Winter Wedding Destinations

LaBelle Lake is a culmination of all that is beautiful and adventurous in Idaho. While Idaho is filled with incredibly scenic locations, from national parks to dunes, this spot differs. LaBelle Lake completely transforms in the winter from a private cabin in the woods to an absolute winter wonderland. This venue creates a breathtaking ice castle for the public every winter. While you can’t get married in the ice castle, you can get married at the LaBelle Lake venue and then take pictures in the castle afterward. I’ve experienced the LaBelle Lake Ice Palace, and it is truly breathtaking and something I think everyone should check out. If you’ve ever wanted to experience what it’s like to be Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, this is how you’d do it!

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

If you’re feeling the pull towards a destination event in the winter and looking for the best winter wedding destinations, look no further than Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Jackson Hole is an adventurer’s dream year-round. While you’ll find most visitors there during the summer months hiking, kayaking, and exploring Grand Teton National Park, there are still tons to do during the winter! Jackson Hole is known for its beautiful snow in the winter, coating the Tetons and trees. However, it’s also an excellent place for skiing, snow-shoeing, and experiencing the great outdoors. It does get extremely cold, so bring a warm coat and many hand warmers!

Gatlinburg, Tennessee – Best Winter Wedding Destinations

Lastly, as a Nashville local, I’ve got to shout out Gatlinburg! It’s a great spot near home for your upcoming winter wedding. Gatlinburg may be just the place for you if you want a mild winter climate! Although it generally only receives about 9 inches of snow annually, increasing elevation into the Smoky Mountains makes you more likely to see snow. It’s a great place to get a little bit of both snow and a cooler winter. There are plenty of incredible venues if you’re looking for a cozy winter wedding experience or somewhere to warm up after your outdoor adventure!

That rounds out my list of the best winter wedding destinations! Wherever you decide to go, it will be beautiful and exactly as you imagined! Don’t be afraid to do something different and what you and your partner want; this day is about the two of you.
