5 Signs You May Want to Elope in Iceland

When planning your dream wedding, every couple’s vision may differ. Some love the traditional big wedding surrounded by friends and family, while others may opt for an intimate courthouse wedding. I’ve got you covered if you’re recently engaged and thinking about eloping but unsure where to go. Suppose you’re considering a tropical destination or planning a spring elopement and wondering what’s best during that season. However, throughout this blog, we’ll discuss the top five signs you want to elope in Iceland! Iceland is a breathtaking and incredible scenic location filled with endless opportunities for adventure. Let’s dive in!

You Love Nature and Adventure

If you and your partner are always up for adventure and getting outdoors, you may want to consider an Iceland elopement! Iceland offers a variety of scenic landscapes—from waterfalls, glaciers, and volcanoes to black sand beaches—it’s out of this world! If you love exploring and getting outdoors and are up for trying new things, check out Iceland and all the epic adventures there. It’s an excellent spot for adventure junkies.

You Want an Intimate, Private Ceremony – Elope in Iceland

I always say an elopement is the perfect type of wedding for couples looking for a more intimate event. Consider an Iceland elopement if you and your partner want to keep the ceremony intimate and private. Not only are there many locations to allow for a private ceremony, but because it’s a destination event, you can control how many people (if any) attend. I’ve witnessed couples marry on the black sand beaches overlooking the incredible ice glaciers and the towering cliffs overlooking waterfalls. While there may be a few tourists, it isn’t too big of an issue.

You’re Looking for a Unique Wedding Experience

Maybe you’ve been to several weddings and are looking for something unique and different. Elope in Iceland! Not only will the experience be unique and once-in-a-lifetime, but not many people will elope there. It’s an exceptional location with cooler weather, which makes travel there during certain times of year difficult. There is a variety of epic scenery and tons of opportunities for adventure, from hiking to camping and exploring the lagoons. Consider researching locations with a unique history or view to create an even more exciting experience.

Are You a Fan of Minimal Planning? Elope in Iceland!

You may not realize it, but most couples that elope in Iceland aren’t actually eloping in Iceland. Getting married out of the country is challenging, so I always suggest couples get married before their trip to Iceland. While it isn’t exactly getting married there, it’s an excellent location for a symbolic ceremony and an excuse to honeymoon somewhere incredible! Besides a travel itinerary, minimal planning will be needed, as you won’t legally be getting married in Iceland. Elopements, in general, involve a ton less planning, which drives up the appeal for many engaged couples.

You Appreciate Dramatic Weather

As mentioned, Iceland’s weather is not for the faint of heart. It can be unpredictable, but that may add to the overall excitement of the adventurous elopement. If you don’t mind a bit of cooler weather with a touch of wind and rain, or you love snowy scenery, Iceland may be just for you. The dramatic and moody weather can be an excellent touch to your elopement. It also makes for great cuddling weather.

If you relate to any of these five signs, you and your partner may want to consider an elopement in Iceland! If you’re looking for more tips and tricks to planning your big day, check out my guide here.
