Best Eats on the Big Island

As a Big Island elopement photographer I’ve done my fair share of exploring and checking out the best spots on the island. While you’re planning your next trip to the Big Island, you’ve got to add my list of best eats on the Big Island to your itinerary. Whether you’re looking for a sweet treat, or a fresh taste from the ocean, I’ve got a little bit of everything on my list. Let’s dive right in!

Restaurants on the Big Island

Da Poke Shack – Best Eats on the Big Island

First on my list of best eats on the Big Island, Da Poke Shack! If you’re looking for a taste of the freshest fish, you’ve found the right spot! Serving locally caught Ahi Tuna, I suggest going early in the day before they sell out. If tuna isn’t your favorite, they also serve shrimp, tako, and taego. Da Poke Shack opens at 10am and will have the best variety early in the day. This is a must stop whenever I’m visiting the Big Island.

Kenichi Pacific

If you’re looking for something unique, check out Kenichi Pacific. A Japanese/Pacific Rim fusion restaurant serving a variety of sushi and sashimi. They also serve chicken, steak, lamb, and their famous duck confit. Kenichi Pacific also maintains a sake collection to enjoy with your meal. It’s a great spot for a date night after your Big Island elopement!

Kona Grill House

Next, Kona Grill House! Another delicious spot for fresh caught fish, and delicious poke. Take it to go and have lunch on the beach with your partner and a beautiful view. Check out their menu here!

Hau Tree

Located in the Kaimana Hotel, the Hau Tree is the perfect spot for a casual meal with delicious food! Hau Tree is open for brunch, lunch and a casual dinner with a menu full of variety. Make reservations on their website here!

Sweet Treats – Best Eats on the Big Island

Punalu’u Bake Shop – Best Eats on the Big Island

Next on my list of favorites is Punalu’u Bake Shop. This spot is a local favorite with the best baked goods on the island. Visit the bake shop and get an inside look into the kitchen in action, and enjoy sweet bread samples along the way! Offering live music, tropical gardens, and an outdoor restaurant. Their bakery is the best part. Their world famous bakery serves sweet breads, malasadas, turnovers, cheesecake, pies, and eclairs. When you smell the sweet smell in the air, you’ll know you’re close to Punalu’u Bake Shop!

What’s Shakin’ Big Island

This family owned smoothie shop is a great spot for breakfast or a quick drink during your island adventures. This best eats on the Big Island spot uses locally sourced and organic fruits as possible to make the best smoothies on the island!

The Original Donkey Ball Store – Best Eats on the Big Island

Next on our food journey, the Original Donkey Ball Store! Although you can find their chocolates in other shops throughout the island, it’s worth the trip to check out where they come from! This shop has the best chocolates on the island. Offering milk, dark and white chocolate options. It’s also a great spot for any macadamia nut lovers! It’s a definite must see when I’m on the Big Island.

Hawaiian Ice Cones

Throughout Hawaii you will find a multitude of shaved ice trucks, shops, and shacks. However, this is my spot of choice. Hawaiian Ice Cones provides a great product, great customer service and so many fun options to customize your sweet treat. If you’re looking for something savory or sweet, they’ve got you covered!

Sweet Journey Soft Serve

Last but not least, my favorite dessert stop, Sweet Journey Soft Serve. The soft serve is to die for, and the topping choices are out of this world. They even offer vegan ice cream options, it’s a great spot to enjoy a delicious treat and great company!
