Why Bring Your Own Photographer To Your Destination Resort Wedding

Imagine this: you’ve decided to have a destination wedding, and your resort offers photography included in your wedding package! What a steal. You don’t have to worry about travel or finding a photographer with experience. Wrong! The photographer ‘hired’ for your wedding was also ‘hired’ for three other weddings that day and is late to your wedding. It’s a nightmare situation. As a destination wedding photographer, I get it! Choosing the right person to capture your day is difficult and even harder to find someone willing to travel to your destination. I promise all the trouble will be worth it; let’s dive into why you should bring your photographer to your destination resort wedding.

Resort Photographers Are Busy

Resort photographers honestly suck. It’s just so hard for them to be everything you need when they have so many other couples they’re working with! Communication is hard because you can’t communicate directly with them. While planning and upon your arrival at the resort, if you have questions or concerns, your wedding planner will communicate them to you. You don’t even know who you’re getting until they show up!

Not Enough Time to Bond

Often, when couples reach out to me for wedding photography coverage, we’ll meet quite a few times to discuss their vision and overall wants for their wedding photography. When it comes to your destination resort wedding photography, you don’t truly get to connect with your photographer. They will show up when they are contracted to and are expected to take pictures and understand what you want. If you’re usually a bit shy, this could be hard for you, as you won’t have time to get to know the photographer.

Language Barrier

Are you considering a destination elopement or wedding in a foreign country? More often than not, their photographers speak the local language, making communicating with you on your wedding day hard. Keep this in mind if you are traveling outside of the country. The last thing you want to worry about on your wedding day is communication between you and your wedding vendors.

Older Style Photography | Destination Resort Wedding Photography

Another reason you should pick your destination resort wedding photographer is that you’ll get to choose the editing style you prefer. When you default to the resort’s photography option, they are often outdated and show up to shoot your wedding. They’re busy all the time with the resort’s couples, so they don’t get to have an editing preference or genuinely put in the time to make your wedding all it could be. Before you arrive at your destination wedding, consider looking up various destination wedding photographers who will travel and find someone’s style you love! You won’t regret having chosen your photographer years from now.

They Don’t Care About Your Wedding Personally

When I work with couples, I genuinely get to know their love story and them as people. It’s so important that I connect with my couples so I can tell their story in the most authentic and raw way I can. Resort photographers generally don’t care about your wedding personally; they look at you as a number on their daily list. My team and I will support you and create a unique wedding experience tailored to your needs and expectations of the day; you can’t get that with a resort photographer.

Why Should You Bring Your Photographer to Your Destination Resort Wedding?

As I previously mentioned, we became a part of the wedding party. Through this process, we become more like friends and family because we get so excited for you and your partner. After your wedding, you can expect to hear from me, and remain friends. You are more than just a number to me; your love story matters, and I promise to capture it how you felt it. We will attend wedding dinners, parties, etc., to ensure your guests are comfortable with us and you’re comfortable with us! A wedding day is emotional and intimate; you should feel confident in your team and comfortable enjoying yourself.

Nevertheless, whether you are having a resort or destination wedding and are on the fence about bringing your photographer, do it! You won’t regret the experience; I promise it’ll be well worth it.
